The coronavirus brings us tough times, you switch on the news or look at your favourite website, and it's not a pretty picture. More dead every day, infections on the rise - Johns Hopkins now counts more than 1 million cases, Health care systems reaching their limits. Whole countries in lockdown, friends and families cutting off contact with each other. And it doesn't end there - businesses facing bancruptcy, workers losing their jobs in droves. It is all pretty scary stuff. What corona virus does to the body is quite well known by now, and more research is under way, but what does it do to our soul? Fear of infection, the isolation, worries about loved ones who are at risk. How can we get through these challenging times without feeling helpless and depressed? The coronavirus is spreading rapidly in Turkey, but President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants to keep the economy going. The country currently has more than 18 thousand confirmed cases and 356 deaths associated with the virus. For now, President Erdogan is resisting growing pressure from unions and the opposition to impose a general lockdown to slow the outbreak. But what he did introduce early on is a curfew for the chronically ill and people older than 65. Another grim chapter in Spain's coronavirus crisis. Over 10,000 people have now died from complications linked to COVID-19. That's after a record 950 people passed away in the last 24 hours. Spain is now second only to Italy in the number of virus fatalities. The pandemic is also hitting the country's economy hard. Nearly a million people have lost their jobs since mid-march. Meanwhile, the country's healthcare workers are overwhelmed, and lacking critical protective gear. Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended the country's coronavirus lockdown until April 30. All citizens with the exception of 'essential workers' are to stay at home -- with all salaries to be paid throughout this period. Experts fear that a virus outbreak is imminent in overcrowded camps on Greek islands. Social distancing is impossible and poor hygiene could lead to the virus spreading uncontrollably. Italy's minute of silence +++ Germany expects tangible pandemic data by Easter | Coronavirus Update
5 күн мурун
Italy held a minute of silence and flew flags at half mast on Tuesday to mourn the 11,591 deceased victims of the coronavirus pandemic. The Mediterranean nation has recorded nearly a third of all deaths related to the pandemic worldwide. It marks the first time the country has seen so many deaths from a single disaster since World War II. The virus "is an injury that hurt the whole country," Rome mayor Virginia Raggi said after observing the minute of silence at noon. "Together, we will get through this," she said. Meanwhile Germany’s health research organization, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), lists the total number of cases in the country as 61,913. "The pandemic is continuing and will carry on for weeks and months," said Lothar Wieler, the head of the Robert Koch Institute. In particular, containment measures to protect particularly vulnerable persons and to expand healthcare capacity will also have to continue. He added that he is optimistic that the measures would be effective, and that he expects "tangible figures" on the impact of the measures to be available by Easter. The death rate in Germany is currently very low, at just 0.8%, however, he believes that that rate will increase. "I would like to ask all people to take this disease seriously," he said, as one study showed that only 41% of Germans believe that COVID-19 is dangerous. Scientists estimate that one infected person passes the virus on to around 2-3 people on average. So what if we used all the data that we already have on our smartphones to track people infected with the Coronavirus? Warn those who had contact with a carrier ? Prevent more infections. The US leader said he expects the country "will be well on our way to recovery" by June 1st, abandoning his earlier goal of relaxing measures by Easter. During a White House press conference, Trump said data indicates that the US death rate will likely peak in two weeks. He also remarked that limiting the number of deaths to 100,000 or 200,000 would constitute a "good job," and that his administration has lowered the number of potential deaths from earlier estimates of more than 2 million. Italy has set another record for the most deaths from coronavirus in a single day. Nearly 1,000 people have died in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to over 9,000. That's the highest number of any country, and health officials say the worst may be yet to come. Hospital wards are still full, although doctors say the number of patients is now steadying. Contagion rates appear to be slowing, giving hope that the strict social controls may be working. But the lockdown is hitting the Italian economy hard, with churches and charities struggling to care for people in need of basic supplies. As Italy marked its deadliest day of the pandemic, Pope Francis held a special service in Rome to pray for an end to the suffering. Wuhan, the city in China where the global coronavirus pandemic began, has partly eased travel restrictions. People are now allowed to return to Wuhan, but no one is allowed to leave yet. The city was put on lockdown in January as Covid-19 cases soared. According to official statistics, the number has since dropped sharply. Local health officials say they're working to prevent the outbreak flaring up again. South Korea is tightening border controls after reporting a spike in coronavirus cases. And it's now enforcing two-week quarantines on all passengers arriving from the United States. Similar quarantines had already been in place for travelers from Europe. "Walk-Through" testing stations have been set up, capable of more than 10 tests per hour. South Korea reported 146 new infections in the last day, 24 of them from airport screenings. Still, one news agency reports that the number of people who have recovered from the virus has, for the first time, exceeded the number of quarantined patients. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has the coronavirus. He's the highest-profile political leader confirmed to have the virus so far. The UK health minister has also tested positive. On Thursday night, Johnson joined the nation in applauding workers in the National Health Service. A day later, after receiving the positive test result, he posted a video in which he said he'd be isolating himself. But he said he'd continue to lead the nation's response to the pandemic. The presidents of the US and China appear to have resolved their feud over which of their countries started the coronavirus pandemic. After President Trump talked about "the Chinese virus," China's foreign ministry suggested that it had been brought to China by the US military. Now Presidents Trump and Xi Jinping have spoken on the phone and agreed to work together to fight the pandemic. More of the latest developments in the coronavirus pandemic. - Just a short while ago, Italian health officials reported nearly a thousand people have died from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. That's the biggest daily number of fatalities since the outbreak began. - The total number of confirmed cases has passed half-a-million, with more than 24-thousand deaths. - A Serbian court has sentenced a man to three years in jail for flouting self-isolation orders. The United States now has more confirmed cases of coronavirus than any other country - including China. Almost 86,000 people in the US have become infected and nearly 1,300 have died. The crisis has hit the American economy hard, fuelling a record surge in unemployment claims. Especially New York, the country's biggest city, is struggling. The EU Commission president Ursula von der Leyen has criticised member states for their lack of solidarity as the coronavirus sweeps across the continent. The Coronavirus crisis is hitting the bloc hard: Half of the world's more than 500-thousand confirmed coronavirus cases are in Europe. The European Central Bank has already announced unprecedented action to support EU members and businesses, but member states can't agree on how to distribute the financial burden and this is resurrecting old fault-lines between north and south. South Africa has confirmed its first two coronavirus deaths, as the number of confirmed cases rises to more than a thousand. The news comes at the start of a three-week nationwide lockdown to stop the spread of the virus. The military has been deployed to help enforce measures that include restictions on people leaving their homes for anything but essential trips. Alcohol sales and dog-walking have also been banned. More of the latest developments in the coronavirus pandemic: - Three months into the outbreak, and the total number of confirmed cases globally has passed half a million - and the death toll is more than 24,000. - France has reported its fifth-highest death count. It's jumped by a quarter in just one day and the death toll is still climbing. - German company Bosch says it's developed a coronavirus test for use in medical facilities that delivers results in 2.5 hours - twice as fast as other tests. The coronavirus outbreak in New York City in the US is so severe that White House officials have called on anyone who has recently left the city to self-isolate for two weeks. More than 15-thousand cases have been confirmed in New York, and around 200 deaths. It's been in lockdown since Sunday, and state officials are pleading for help, but preparing for the worst. US lawmakers have agreed a 2 Trillion dollar stimulus package. After days of wrangling, Democrats and Republicans announced the deal shortly after midnight in Washington. Among the items agreed - adults can receive direct deposits of up to 1,200 dollars - 500 dollars for children. The government will support small businesses with loans to the tune of 367-Bbillion dollars. Hospitals will also get some 150-Bbillion dollars in aid. There will also be half a Ttrillion dollars in guaranteed, subsidised loans to larger industries. Meanwhile China's Hubei province sees the lifting of travel restrictions, where the coronavirus pandemic began in December. Trains are running again, although they're not yet carrying many passengers. Stations are opening up across the province, except in the city of Wuhan, where the corionavirus was first detected. Car drivers there are still being tested, and it will be another two weeks before Wuhan sees its restrictions lifted. It's not only in Hubei where people are now free to go out and about. Official Coronavirus figures from Italy offer a glimmer of hope that lockdown measures introduced two weeks ago have slowed the spread of the virus. The crisis has pushed northern Italy's health system to breaking point - with critical care units filled to capacity. Many factories are still operating in the region - though the government says they are essential for the economy. Meanwhil in Spain things do lot look very bright: The government is expected to extend the state of emergency by two weeks. The number of new coronavirus cases jumped by some 6,600 overnight, with more than 500 reported to have died. Pictures taken at a hospital in Madrid show patients lying unattended in a corridor. The Spanish capital has been particularly affected, with nearly 10,000 cases. An ice rink inside a shopping mall in Madrid has been turned into a makeshift morgue. And soldiers helping to fight the virus have made shocking discoveries at nursing homes, where elderly residents have been found abandoned, some dead in their beds. Prosecutors have launched an investigation. Some more of the latest developments in the coronavirus pandemic: - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a nationwide lockdown. Beginning at midnight, some 1.3 billion people will be barred from leaving their homes for 21 days. - Here in Germany, 95 percent of people say they support the government's ban on gatherings of more than two people - according to a new poll. - Some 6 Million protective masks that were destined for Germany have gone missing at an airport in Kenya. Can controlled 'herd immunity' be an alternative to social distancing? | Coronavirus Analysis

In some European countries, there are ongoing discussions about what measures to introduce and when. Some countries are focusing on the best ways to reach what’s called ‘herd immunity’ - a critical point in a pandemic when the number of people who have grown immune to the virus automatically limit its spread. For weeks, the British government avoided implementing restrictions on wider society. The goal appeared to be to allow members of the community who are considered less vulnerable to be infected, in order to reach the tipping point of herd immunity sooner. But after models showed how badly UK hospitals would be overwhelmed in such a scenario, and with the potentially hundreds of thousands of deaths it would cause, priorities have shifted.om/user/deutschewelleenglish?sub_confirmation=1 For more news go to: www.dw.com/en/ Follow DW on social media: ►Facebook: facebook.com/deutschewellenews/ ►Twitter: twitter.com/dwnews ►Instagram: instagram.com/dw_stories/ Für Videos in deutscher Sprache besuchen Sie: kgmind.info/Cutschewelle #Coronavirus #SocialDistancing #HerdImmunity

So far Germany has held back on introducing a nationwide lockdown in response to the coronavirus outbreak. But numerous individual states have been tightening restrictions on public life in an attempt to stop the virus's spread. Now the states of Saarland and Bavaria have ordered that people be confined to their homes. In Berlin authorities have as yet taken a less stringent approach to public spaces in battling the virus. They've only shut down some places like playgrounds. Parks have remained open. But they were much less popular on a mostly sunny day in the German capital. Officials have threatened a much wider crack down should too many people flout the advice to stay mostly indoors. China has reported no locally transmitted coronavirus cases for the third consecutive day. The WHO says the city of Wuhan, where the outbreak began, now provides hope for the rest of the world. China did report 41 new cases of the virus imported from overseas. The new infections came mainly through students and expatriates who returned in recent days from the United States and Europe. The new cases have sparked fears of a second wave of the virus just as the country has started to recover from the initial outbreak. The Coronavirus is sweeping around the world. It’s a global emergency like we’ve never seen before. Europe now has become epicentre of the Corona crisis. Italy is ground zero, and its healthcare system is buckling under the pressure. Scenes like this could come soon in Spain, France and Germany too. And European leaders are warning it could get much, much worse. And the US isn’t far behind, although the president insists he is on top of things. But the markets don’t seem to agree. The economy is heading for a huge recession. Back in China, where it all began, the worst seemsto be over, at least for now. Infections are down dramatically from their peak and president Xi Jinping has been to visit healthcare workers in the city of Wuhan, which is China's ground zero. Some have even said China’s response is a model for the world. An extreme lockdown that helped to slow the virus’s spread, a makeshift hospital built in a matter of days, all made possible by an authoritarian regime that is able to act quickly and decisively. Is that true? Do you need to be a dictatorship to handle a killer virus? Are Europe and the US at a fatal disadvantage in tackling this intense crisis? We’re going to compare these three big players: China, where it all began, Europe, now at the centre of the pandemic, and the US, where infections are spreading fast. Our Analysis is taking a deep dive in what’s going wrong, what’s going right, and what global politics might look like after this crisis. Italy has reported the highest one-day death toll from Coronavirus than any other country. Officials said nearly 500 people died on Wednesday. Videos posted on social media are said to show military trucks in the city of Bergamo preparing to transport the dead to nearby cities. Mortuaries and crematoriums in Bergamo have run out of space. Medical teams from China have arrived to help authorities fight the virus. It could be a major turning point in the drive to contain the coronavirus: On Wednesday, China, the epicenter of the original outbreak, reported no new local cases of the infection for first time since it began recording them in January. However, there were 34 new infections imported from abroad, which threatens the progress China has made. Beijing imposed stringent restrictions on travel and movement in an attempt to prevent the virus from spreading. The total number of confirmed coronavirus infections in mainland China stands at almost 81-thousand. Some other corona-related developments around the world: - New Zealand and Australia are closing their borders to non-residents and non citizens, to protect their nations from the virus. - Japan's deputy prime minister says holding the Summer Olympics would make 'no sense' if countries can't send athletes. Europe is the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak. Travel into Europe, the current epicenter of the coroanvirus pandemic, is being severely restricted. European Union leaders have agreed on a 30-day ban on travellers entering the bloc. The decision will affect most non-citizens and non-residents of the European Union - with some exceptions. It will be up to each member state to implement the new regulations. But Covid19 is also having a massive impact elsewhere: - The US and Canada, which share the world's longest land border, are working out the details of banning all non-essential travel between the two countries. - British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has hinted that the U-K might also have to close its schools, as in many other European countries. - Cuba has recorded its first death from the coronavirus. The country's health ministry says the victim was a 61-year-old Italian tourist. Unlike many Latin Amerian countries, Cuba has not closed its borders. - Japan's deputy prime minister says holding the Summer Olympics would make 'no sense' if countries can't send athletes. Coronavirus: WHO accuses governments of 'alarming levels of inaction' | DW News
24 күн мурун
The World Health Organisation has declared the coronavirus a pandemic and accused governments of "alarming levels of inaction". The WHO says it hopes using the word 'pandemic' will shock lethargic governments into taking more decisive measures. One of the worst-hit countries, Italy, has announced another wave of restrictions. Now, all shops, except food stores and pharmacies, will be closed to try to halt the spread of the disease. US President Donald Trump has banned nearly all travel from Europe to the United States starting at midnight on Friday. The ban will last for 30 days, but excludes the UK and Ireland and a few other countries outside the Schengen passport-free travel area. Trump said clusters of coronavirus infections in the US were traceable to people coming from Europe. He blamed the European Union for failing to act quickly enough to prevent the spread of the disease. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has warned that up to 70 per cent of the German population could contract the coronavirus. As Germany reported its third death from the virus, Merkel said the country must do everything possible to slow the virus's spread and prevent the healthcare system from being overwhelmed. She also said she was open to scrapping her country's strict spending rules to help the government fight the spread of the virus. Merkel called on people to show solidarity with the elderly and people suffering underlying illnesses, who are likely to be most severely affected. As Coronavirus cases wordwide cross the 110,000 mark, it is worth looking at if anything can be learned from China, the country where the outbreak began. The World Health Organisation (WHO) described China's efforts in the Wuhan region as the 'most ambitious, agile and aggressive disease containment effort in history.' An effort, the WHO says, which worked. But not all of what China has been done has been without controversy. Last month WHO health experts submitted a report after a visit to China. DW spoke to Professor Dale Fisher, who was part of that team. The EU Turkey refugee agreement aimed at stemming the flow of migrants to Europe is still valid, says European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Erdogan is demanding more help from Brussels for the 3,6 Million Syrian migrants living in Turkish camps. While the recent focus of the migration crisis has been the land border between Greece and Turkey, thousands of other migrants are currently living in overcrowed camps on Greek islands. The German government says it wants to help Greece by taking up to fifteen hundred migrant children to other EU countries. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is set to meet with EU officials over the ongoing migrant crisis. He has called on Greece to allow migrants in that are currently stranded at the Greek border. Tens of thousands have been trying to break through the land border from Turkey, after Ankara announced it would no longer prevent people from trying to cross into the EU. To ease the situation for refugees already in Greece, Germany says the EU is considering taking in up to 1,500 migrant children who are currently housed in Greek camps. In a statement, Berlin said it was willing to take what it called an appropriate share. Concern has been growing as many of the children require urgent medical treatment, and are not accompanied by adults. 《And We conveyed to the Children of Israel in the Scripture that, "You will surely cause corruption on the earth twice, and you will surely reach [a degree of] great haughtiness. So when the [time of] promise came for the first of them, We sent against you servants of Ours - those of great military might, and they probed [even] into the homes, and it was a promise fulfilled. Then We gave back to you a return victory over them. And We reinforced you with wealth and sons and made you more numerous in manpower. [And said], "If you do good, you do good for yourselves; and if you do evil, [you do it] to yourselves." Then when the final promise came, [We sent your enemies] to sadden your faces and to enter the temple in Jerusalem, as they entered it the first time, and to destroy what they had taken over with [total] destruction.》 Surah Israa🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸

There are two ways to develop immunity to this virus. 1: We catch the virus and recover by developing antibodies that will give us immunity. 2: We wait for the scientists to develop a vaccine, which could take years. Take your pick. The best we can do is slow down the process to give health services more chance to cope with the growing numbers and thereby save more lives. We cannot stop it entirely. People seem to think some genius scientist is going to emerge with a wonder drug to save us all. Don't hold your breath. A vaccine probably will be developed but it will take at least one year and it may take several.

All of us have some curiosity that how the economy will work after the corona epedemic end? Here's how it will pan out- - Everyone will soon realize they need to return to normal life asap. - various analysis show that we're moving into an unavoidable and unprecedented recession - market actors acknowledge that the impact of an economic recession is imminent - markets react in weird ways due to external shock to global economy - lock downs are quickly removed as fear of economical downturn rises, accepting the virus to spread. - consumers remain frightened, economy doesn't pick up as expected. - multiple countries start experiencing mass layoffs and bankruptcies due to economic impact. - a broad range of industries are dealing with an enormous, simultaneous and sudden decline in offer and demand, causing further insecurity. - corporations and consumers hold back investments and consumption due to unsafe economic climate - investors and individuals begin moving assets due to fear of economic collapse - stock markets crash, panic breaks out in various markets and countries due to economic decline. - economic downturn becoming a self fulfilling prophecy and global economy collapses. - governments struggle over adapting policies further creating insecurity in global economy (ongoing) -civil wars within borders. - end of the global economy as we know it.
